Most of the information we perceive comes to us by sight. We see more than we smell, feel, hear or taste. This is common knowledge. But just try to imagine how your life would be without sight. Just try to imagine living your life in darkness. And all of that because you weren’t able to take care of the sense you so much value. Indeed, most people say that the sense of sight is their most important sense. Of course the sense of sight is not the most important one, according to scientists, who say that losing your touch could mean losing your life. But the loss of sight is undoubtedly a tragedy.
Nevertheless, we seem not to give too much attention to the way we look after our eyes. We seem not to care that we strain them a lot, in the detriment of our vision, given the condition that maintaining good vision is not that big of a deal. I have written an entire chapter on this topic inside the my book, but let’s give it a glance here.
Besides all the things, eye exercises, techniques and instruments that are available all over to maintain or improve eyesight and eye health, food is one of the most important and maybe even the most ignored. Many still think that what they eat only affects their belly. Wrong!
Everything you eat is transformed into fuel that makes your organs work. In order to have a healthy body you need to eat healthy food. So if you want to keep your sight the way it is and even improve it in time, you must consider what reaches your belly. Here is a list of things that you can consume in order to do so.
Green tea benefits the eyes. It has Vitamin C and Vitamin E, carotenoids zeaxanthin and lutein. This sort of tea is also known to be beneficial for the entire body.
Carrots are a cliché not to be avoided. All the myths about carrots (which are for the eyes pretty much what spinach is to Popeye) came to exist because of various benefits they have on our health (and the propaganda fed to the Nazis during world war two!) .
Indeed, carrots help maintain good eye health. Carrots contain lots of Vitamin A – so much, in fact, that just one carrot a day can help a person meet his daily requirements. Some prefer to drink carrots, as juice, which is ok.
Tomatoes are not just for ketchup. They are a great source of lycopene. But you don’t know what that is, now, do you? Well, lycopene is an antioxidant that also aids eye health. Lycopene is proved – by researchers all over the world – to lower the risk of macular degenerative disease, which, as explained more detailed in the book, can cause blindness. Lycopene is concentrated in tomatoes, which makes them a great food choice.
Garlic keeps away not just vampires, but eye diseases two! Garlic is recommended for heart health, but it is undoubtedly useful to eye health. Garlic contains healthy, reliable amounts of selenium.
Spinach and other alimentary plants like it (lettuce etc) have plenty of Vitamin C and other phytonutrients and carotenoids important for the good health of the eyes as well as other parts of the body. There are few foods like them, and it’s best to include a portion of these foods every day in one’s diet.
